How To Get Your Game Design Published

To be brief, getting a video game you designed published is not a simple, easy task, especially if it's your first. Nobody should be telling you otherwise. The industry is already filled with thousands of great ideas, and even more people coming up with more of the ideas. Unless you are a gaming genius (we all think we are, don't we?), your idea won't be made into a game tomorrow or even in the next five years.

But there is one easy way to sell a video game design, because you already know one person who likes it - you! If you think your idea is that brilliant, consider turning the idea into a game yourself, especially if you've already tried pitching it to executives. Maybe you could round up a friend or two to help. You'll need artwork, design, and programming as part of your first essentials. Use some game design tools to help you with platform games, and other game design programs for computer games. Then you can work together programming the game, getting artwork made, and developing the game mechanics until you have a finished product.

Once you finish making a game, then you've got try to get people to play it. That's a lot of hard work. Maybe it stinks in some aspect, and doesn't sell more than 100 copies. Consider yourself in okay shape, though, because at least you got somewhere. You can use the game you and your friends created to get into the industry. Showing it to industry people could get you a job, as it demonstrates actual experience.

Another way to get your game made is by becoming part of the game design industry. Chances are you can't access the people who you might be interested in selling your video game idea to without having lots of connections already. Try to land a job as a game artist or tester or lackey programmer or writer, any small part. From there you can work your way towards being able to do what you want. Even if your original design never gets made, you'll have the experience, knowledge, and ability to improve and make better ones.
